PDF watermark

Add a text watermark to every page.

What it is for

A watermark is text laid diagonally across every page to indicate the status or ownership of a document. It offers no technical protection, but it leaves a visible record of something worth knowing at a glance.

Its real value is preventing confusion. An unmarked quote can end up circulating as if it were final; a working version can be signed by mistake. Writing DRAFT across every page makes that misunderstanding very unlikely.

The text is applied with transparency, so it reads clearly without obstructing the content underneath. It is added to every page of the document.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF you want to watermark.
  2. Type the text you want to appear, e.g. "CONFIDENTIAL" or "DRAFT".
  3. Click "Process" and download the PDF with the text overlaid diagonally on every page.

When to use it

Mark drafts

DRAFT or NOT FINAL stops a document under review from being taken as the definitive version.

Flag confidentiality

CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL USE reminds whoever receives it not to forward it on.

Copies and samples

COPY or SAMPLE distinguishes the working version from the original in paperwork that passes through several hands.

Practical tips

  • Short text in capitals works best: a long sentence overlaps the content and gets in the way.
  • A watermark is a deterrent, not a security measure: editing tools can remove it. Genuinely sensitive material needs encryption.
  • Apply it last. If you merge, split or reorder afterwards, the watermark travels with the pages.
  • If the document will be printed in black and white, check beforehand that the result is still legible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use an image or logo instead of text?

Right now this tool only supports text watermarks.

Does the watermark make the document hard to read?
