What it is for

Merging PDFs is one of those tasks that seems trivial until you need it in a hurry. A contract scanned in parts, three invoices that have to be sent together, the annexes to an application that the authorities require as a single file: in all these cases the problem is not the content, it is that the content is spread across separate documents.

The usual fix is to install desktop software or upload the files to a website that processes them on its own server. The second option is convenient, but it means your documents travel to someone else’s computer and stay there for an unspecified period. If the PDF holds a payslip, an ID document or a medical report, that stops being a detail.

This tool merges the files inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded: the browser itself reads the pages of each PDF and writes a new one containing all of them. You can verify it by disconnecting from the internet before pressing Process, because it will keep working exactly the same.

Home scanners and phone apps often produce one file per page or per batch. Merging restores the document to its original shape before you archive or sign it.

Proposals and quotes

Combining cover, report and budget into one file looks more considered than three loose attachments, and stops the recipient from opening only the first one.

Practical tips

The output order is exactly the order the files appear in the list, not alphabetical order. Check it before processing.
If your files are named "scan (1)", "scan (2)" and so on, rename them with two-digit numbers (01, 02) first, so your file browser offers them already sorted.
Merging does not recompress anything, so the final PDF weighs roughly the sum of the originals. If the result is too large to email, compress the images before generating it.
If you only need some pages from each document, extract them first and merge afterwards: it is faster than merging everything and trimming later.
