What it is for

A palette generator proposes sets of colours that work well together. It serves as a starting point when you have to choose a project’s range with no prior reference, which is one of the decisions where it is easiest to get stuck.

Harmony is neither accident nor pure taste: it follows geometric relationships on the colour wheel. Colours spaced at regular intervals from a base hue produce combinations the eye reads as balanced, with enough contrast to be distinct and enough relation not to clash.

This tool generates five colours following that principle from a random base hue. The idea is to press a few times until a combination fits, then keep the HEX codes.

How it works

  1. Click "Process" to generate a palette of 5 random, harmonious colors.
  2. Click any color to copy its HEX code to the clipboard.
  3. Repeat until you find a combination that fits your project.

When to use it

Starting a project

With no existing visual identity, a generated palette gives a coherent base to work from.

Charts and presentations

Data series in harmonious colours read better than combinations picked one at a time without a system.

Breaking a block

Seeing unexpected combinations helps you discard quickly and discover options you would not have considered.

Practical tips

  • A working palette rarely uses all five colours equally: pick one dominant, one accent, and leave the rest as support.
  • Always check contrast before using two of these colours as text and background. Harmonious does not mean legible.
  • Save the HEX codes as soon as you find a combination that works: generating again loses it.
  • If you need variations of one particular colour rather than a random palette, use the colour picker and adjust lightness in HSL.

Frequently asked questions

How are colors that go well together generated?

They're spread evenly around the color wheel starting from a random base hue, which guarantees contrast and harmony between them.

Can I start from a specific color?

This tool generates fully random palettes; if you want variations of a specific color, use the "Color converter" to explore related tones manually.
